Welcome to SSPC ACT

Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of the Sporting Shooters Pistol Club (SSPC ACT).

Whether you are wanting to obtain your ‘H’ Class Firearms Licence or to continue shooting as you already have a ‘H’ Class Firearms Licence, SSPC ACT can accommodate you.

For close to 50 years, SSPC ACT has been supporting pistol shooters of all abilities to partake in this exciting sport and improve their skills. SSPC ACT is linked to the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (SSAA) and operates independently as a separately incorporated Club located at the SSAA Majura Shooting Complex.

SSPC ACT is friendly and family-orientated where the development of new shooters, including juniors, is paramount. While having fun is important, safety is and always will be our number one focus.

If you currently have a ‘H’ Class Firearms Licence and want to become a member of SSPC ACT then complete the steps below:

a. Email the New Members Coordinator informing them of your query in becoming a member of SSPC ACT.

b. Obtain a National Police Check (current within three months of application to SSPC ACT).

c. Obtain a letter of reference from your previous club.

d. Obtain two-character references. This can be in either a letter or email; please ensure the person providing the reference includes their contact details (minimum of their full name, address, and telephone number) in the reference.

e. Become a member of the SSAA, if not already a member. This is mandatory.

f. Complete the ‘SSPC ACT Membership Application Form’. This will be sent to you on initial contact with the New Members Coordinator regarding your membership query.

g. Undertake a Safe Handling Assessment. Once assessed as competent a copy will be provided to the Chief Instructor and New Member Coordinator. This will be organised by the New Members Coordinator on initial contact and can be conducted on the day of your Orientation Tour.

h. Attend an Orientation Tour of SSPC ACT’s facilities with the New Member Coordinator. This is held on the second Saturday of each month beginning at 12.30pm commencing at the SSPC ACT Main Club House. On that day bring all the above paperwork (if completed) and the New Member Coordinator will check over it to ensure everything is good to go. Alternatively, if you have completed all your paperwork before the Orientation Tour it can be sent through to via email to the New Members Coordinator.

i. Once steps a. – h. have been competed the New Member Coordinator will email you the ‘New Members Interest Form’ to complete and return.

j. After the New Members Coordinator has checked and verified your paperwork is complete, they will arrange for you to attend a SSPC ACT Monthly Committee Meeting. If you have not provided proof of identification before the meeting you will need provide identification equalling to 100 points at the monthly committee meeting.

k. After the Committee Meeting, the Treasurer will email you an invoice with instructions on how to pay your membership fee. Following payment confirmation, the Secretary will contact you informing you your payment has been received. Your membership card will then be sent to you, and you can begin to use the facilities.

If you do not hold a ‘H’ Class Firearms Licence and want to become a member of SSPC ACT then complete the steps below:

a. Email the New Members Coordinator informing them of your query in becoming a member of SSPC ACT and whether you reside in NSW or the ACT. NSW and the ACT have different training and licencing requirements. This will allow the New Members Coordinator to provide you with the correct ‘Probationary Licence’ information pack.

b. Obtain a National Police Check (current within three months of application to SSPC ACT).

c. Obtain two-character references. This can be in either a letter or email; please ensure the person providing the reference includes their contact details (minimum of their full name, address, and telephone number) in the reference.

d. Become a member of the SSAA, if not already a member. This is mandatory.

e. Complete the ‘SSPC ACT Membership Application Form’. This will be sent to you on initial contact with the New Members Coordinator regarding your membership query.
